Dental assistant Needed in Canada By Dental at the Met 

As a dental assistant, you will work closely with dentists and dental hygienists to provide patient care, assist with dental procedures, and ensure smooth operation of the dental office. Your role is crucial in delivering quality dental care and maintaining a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care:
    • Prepare treatment rooms for patient procedures, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
    • Greet and prepare patients for dental treatments, procedures, and examinations.
    • Assist dentists and hygienists during procedures by handing them instruments, operating equipment, and providing chairside support.
  2. Sterilization and Infection Control:
    • Sterilize and disinfect instruments, equipment, and treatment areas following infection control guidelines.
    • Maintain and monitor sterilization equipment and ensure compliance with sterilization protocols.
  3. Dental Procedures Assistance:
    • Prepare materials and instruments for dental procedures such as fillings, crowns, extractions, and root canals.
    • Take dental radiographs (X-rays) and process X-ray images as directed by dentists.
    • Provide post-operative instructions to patients under the direction of the dentist.
  4. Patient Records and Administrative Tasks:
    • Record patient treatment information in electronic health records (EHR) or paper charts accurately and confidentially.
    • Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow to optimize efficiency in the dental office.
    • Assist with billing, insurance claims, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  5. Patient Education and Comfort:
    • Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques, dental procedures, and post-operative care.
    • Ensure patient comfort during treatments, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certification or diploma from an accredited dental assisting program.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and procedures.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a caring and empathetic demeanor.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a dental assisting program is required.
  • Certification or registration as a dental assistant (CDA) may be required or preferred, depending on state regulations.
  • CPR certification is often required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a dental office setting, assisting in treatment rooms and patient reception areas.
  • Exposure to dental materials, chemicals, and radiation (X-rays), with adherence to safety protocols.
  • Full-time or part-time hours may vary depending on the dental practice’s schedule and patient load.
