As a farm supervisor, your primary responsibility is to oversee and coordinate daily farm operations to ensure efficient production of crops, livestock, or other agricultural products. You will manage a team of farm workers, implement farming plans and schedules, and maintain equipment and facilities to achieve production goals and maximize profitability.

Key Responsibilities:
- Team Management:
- Supervise and coordinate the work activities of farm workers, including assigning tasks, providing training, and monitoring performance.
- Ensure adherence to work schedules, safety protocols, and agricultural practices.
- Crop and Livestock Management:
- Plan and implement planting, cultivation, and harvesting schedules based on seasonal and market demands.
- Monitor crop health, irrigation systems, and soil conditions; implement pest and weed control measures as needed.
- Manage livestock care and breeding programs, including feeding, vaccination, and health monitoring.
- Equipment and Facility Maintenance:
- Ensure proper maintenance and repair of farm equipment, machinery, and facilities to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff or contractors to address equipment issues or infrastructure improvements.
- Financial and Record Keeping:
- Monitor farm budgets, expenses, and inventory levels of supplies and materials.
- Keep accurate records of production activities, crop yields, livestock performance, and financial transactions.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, environmental standards, and health and safety guidelines.
- Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards of crop and livestock production.
- Seasonal Planning and Risk Management:
- Develop and implement seasonal plans for planting, harvesting, and other farm activities.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to weather, pests, diseases, or market fluctuations that may impact farm operations.
Tasks
- Co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers
- Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
- Maintain quality control and production records
- Supervise and oversee breeding and other livestock-related programs
- Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a farm supervisor or in a similar role within the agricultural industry.
- Knowledge of crop production, livestock management, and agricultural practices.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate a team.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure and adapt to changing conditions.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, animal science, or related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in farm management, supervisory roles, or hands-on farming operations.
- Certification or training in agricultural management, pesticide application, or livestock handling may be advantageous.
Working Conditions:
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, and rain.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform farm duties, including lifting, bending, and operating machinery.
- Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on seasonal demands.
