As a server in food and beverage services, your primary responsibility is to provide exceptional customer service to restaurant patrons by taking orders, serving food and beverages, and ensuring a positive dining experience. You will work as part of a team to uphold the restaurant’s standards of service and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service:
    • Greet guests warmly, escort them to their tables, and present menus.
    • Assist customers in selecting food and beverages, providing recommendations if requested.
    • Take accurate orders and relay them to the kitchen staff promptly.
  2. Table Service:
    • Serve food and beverages to guests in a timely and courteous manner.
    • Monitor tables for guest satisfaction and respond promptly to any additional requests.
    • Clear tables and ensure cleanliness and readiness for the next seating.
  3. Menu Knowledge:
    • Familiarize yourself with the menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
    • Answer questions about menu items, including allergens and dietary restrictions.
  4. Billing and Payment Processing:
    • Present and explain bills to customers, process payments accurately, and handle cash transactions.
    • Maintain a tidy and organized cash register area and reconcile receipts at the end of shifts.
  5. Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with kitchen staff, bartenders, and other servers to ensure smooth operation and coordination of service.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to fulfill customer orders and special requests.
  6. Cleanliness and Hygiene:
    • Maintain cleanliness of dining areas, including tables, chairs, floors, and restrooms.
    • Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling of food and beverages.

  • Address customers’ complaints or concerns
  • Present bills to customers and accept payment in cash, credit or debit cards, travellers cheques or room billings
  • Describe menu items including daily specials for customers
  • Advise on menu selections
  • Balance cash and record sales
  • Clear and clean tables, trays and chairs
  • Describe and advise on wine selection
  • Greet patrons, present menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding food and beverages
  • Serve food and beverages
  • Take orders and relay to kitchen and bar staff
  • Assist clients/guests with special needs
  • Provide customer service

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a server or in customer service, preferably in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with diverse customers.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in order taking and billing processes.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training in food handling and safety regulations (e.g., ServSafe) is beneficial.
  • Certification in responsible alcohol service may be required depending on local regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily indoors in a restaurant setting, standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Exposure to varying levels of noise, heat, and humidity in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Shift work with irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
