As a server in food and beverage services, your primary responsibility is to provide exceptional customer service to restaurant patrons by taking orders, serving food and beverages, and ensuring a positive dining experience. You will work as part of a team to uphold the restaurant’s standards of service and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service:
- Greet guests warmly, escort them to their tables, and present menus.
- Assist customers in selecting food and beverages, providing recommendations if requested.
- Take accurate orders and relay them to the kitchen staff promptly.
- Table Service:
- Serve food and beverages to guests in a timely and courteous manner.
- Monitor tables for guest satisfaction and respond promptly to any additional requests.
- Clear tables and ensure cleanliness and readiness for the next seating.
- Menu Knowledge:
- Familiarize yourself with the menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
- Answer questions about menu items, including allergens and dietary restrictions.
- Billing and Payment Processing:
- Present and explain bills to customers, process payments accurately, and handle cash transactions.
- Maintain a tidy and organized cash register area and reconcile receipts at the end of shifts.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with kitchen staff, bartenders, and other servers to ensure smooth operation and coordination of service.
- Communicate effectively with team members to fulfill customer orders and special requests.
- Cleanliness and Hygiene:
- Maintain cleanliness of dining areas, including tables, chairs, floors, and restrooms.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handling of food and beverages.
Tasks
- Address customers’ complaints or concerns
- Present bills to customers and accept payment in cash, credit or debit cards, travellers cheques or room billings
- Describe menu items including daily specials for customers
- Advise on menu selections
- Balance cash and record sales
- Clear and clean tables, trays and chairs
- Describe and advise on wine selection
- Greet patrons, present menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding food and beverages
- Serve food and beverages
- Take orders and relay to kitchen and bar staff
- Assist clients/guests with special needs
- Provide customer service

Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a server or in customer service, preferably in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with diverse customers.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in order taking and billing processes.
- Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training in food handling and safety regulations (e.g., ServSafe) is beneficial.
- Certification in responsible alcohol service may be required depending on local regulations.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily indoors in a restaurant setting, standing and walking for extended periods.
- Exposure to varying levels of noise, heat, and humidity in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Shift work with irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
