As a glass-finishing machine operator, your primary responsibility is to operate machinery that cuts, shapes, polishes, or finishes glass products according to specifications. You will work in manufacturing facilities or glass fabrication shops, ensuring the quality, precision, and efficiency of glass finishing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Machine Operation:
    • Set up, operate, and monitor glass-finishing machines such as cutting tables, edging machines, polishing equipment, and drilling machines.
    • Load glass sheets or pieces onto machines, adjust settings, and initiate automated or manual processes to perform cutting, shaping, polishing, or drilling operations.
  2. Quality Control:
    • Inspect finished glass products for defects, flaws, or imperfections using measuring tools and visual inspection techniques.
    • Ensure products meet quality standards, specifications, and customer requirements before releasing them for further processing or shipment.
  3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Perform routine maintenance on machinery, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts to ensure optimal performance.
    • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, identify root causes of issues, and make adjustments or repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and following lockout/tagout procedures.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring safe handling and disposal of glass shards, scrap, and waste materials.
  5. Production Documentation:
    • Record production data, including quantities produced, machine settings, and any issues encountered during operations.
    • Complete production reports and logs accurately to track productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics.

  • Set up or adjust automatic glass feeding, flowing and forming machines
  • Heat, anneal, temper or form float glass or glass products

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing or glass fabrication environment.
  • Knowledge of glass-finishing techniques, equipment, and processes (e.g., cutting, edging, polishing).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve equipment problems.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machine operation or glass processing is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in operating glass-finishing machinery or similar industrial equipment.
  • Familiarity with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines and automated manufacturing processes is beneficial.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a manufacturing or production environment, often standing for extended periods and working around machinery.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, glass particles, and chemicals used in glass processing; adherence to safety protocols is essential.
  • Shift work and flexibility in hours may be required to support production schedules and meet customer demands.
